A Clear, Thoughtful Approach to Spine Care

Most back and neck problems improve without surgery. My goal is to help patients understand their condition, avoid unnecessary procedures, and identify when specialized care may truly help.

When surgery is appropriate, I focus on minimally invasive and endoscopic techniques designed to reduce tissue disruption and support recovery.

What patients can expect:

  • Clear explanations in plain language

  • Non-surgical options first when appropriate

  • Guidance on when further evaluation is needed

  • Focus on motion preservation and minimally invasive techniques when surgery is required

Dr. Sauber’s

Philosophy

Spine surgery has, at times, developed a negative reputation, often leaving people uncertain about when it is appropriate and when it is not. In many cases, people are told to avoid surgery altogether, while others may feel they are being directed toward more invasive treatments than necessary.

My approach is centered on careful evaluation and clear communication. Most spinal conditions can and should be treated without surgery whenever possible. However, there are also many situations where minimally invasive procedures can safely and effectively relieve symptoms and help people return to an active, healthy lifestyle.

When surgery is recommended, the goal is to match the treatment precisely to the problem—using the least invasive approach necessary. This includes preserving motion whenever possible and reserving fusion procedures for situations where they are truly indicated, such as spinal instability or deformity.

I believe spine surgeons have a responsibility to provide accurate, evidence-based guidance and to help people make informed decisions that prioritize long-term function and quality of life.
